4-H Clover Kids–Project Ideas

By Sunday, September 15, 2013

At my daughter’s school each class has a parent volunteer that comes in once a month and does a 4-H craft project with the kids. This year that parent is me and it has been so much fun. Our first project was a turtle. I wanted something simple since I wasn’t sure exactly how much the kids could do (Kindergarten). I cut out all the feet and heads ahead of time and spray painted the paper plates. I forgot to cut out tails and the kids made sure to let me know that I forgot a body part!

  • Green Foam Sheets (Craft store, feet/head/tails)
  • Paper plates (body)
  • Googly Eyes
  • Green Spray Paint
  • Glue
  • Green Split Peas (Grocery store)

In the class all they had to do was glue on the feet/heads and coat the top in a thick layer of glue then dunk in the peas. Putting the peas in a shallow box works well, all they have to do is place the turtle in it and the peas will stick (definitely their favorite part!). Next month we’re trying something a bit more challenging…..marble painting!
